Understanding dental implants

Before diving into the specifics, it’s important to understand what makes dental implants the preferred choice for tooth replacement:

  • They are designed to mimic the root of a tooth, providing a stable foundation for replacement teeth
  • They look and feel like your natural teeth
  • They will restore your full chewing power, allowing you to enjoy your favourite foods without hesitation
  • Reduce and slow down the ageing effects of tooth loss
  • They can be used to secure loose dentures
  • Boost your confidence and stop you hiding your smile in photos

What is the consultation process?

We find that a lot of patients are unsure about what dental implant treatment actually involves. This is why we encourage patients to book a free initial consultation with our Treatment Coordinator, Jenna.

What affects the cost of dental implants?

Any pre-implant work required – Bone grafts or gum contouring could increase the price of dental implants, as this will need to be completed before the procedure.

The natural design of your teeth – The design of the final porcelain restoration may need to be carefully constructed, and blended in with your natural smile.

The number of implants required – Depending on your desired results, we will need to decide whether you need getting a single implant or multiple, such as a full set of Smile in a Day dental implants.

Missing teeth can have a significant impact on your life both physically and emotionally. Eating and speaking can become difficult, and your self-esteem and confidence can take a hit. In some cases, it can even lead to social anxiety and embarrassment.

If you have a missing tooth or teeth, then you may have considered getting a dental implant. However, how do you know if you need one? In this comprehensive guide, we will discuss everything you need to know about dental implants, so you can make an informed decision about your oral health.

What they are and how they work

Dental implants are artificial teeth that are implanted into your jawbone. They are made of titanium and are designed to be a permanent solution for missing teeth. A dental implant itself consists of three parts: the implant itself, the abutment, and the crown. The implant is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over time. The abutment is a connector that attaches the implant to the crown, which is the visible part of the tooth.

Dental implants are an excellent option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to injury, decay or periodontal disease. They are also suitable for people who have worn dentures for a long time and are looking for a more permanent solution.

Signs that you may need a dental implant

If you are missing a tooth or teeth, you may be a good candidate for a dental implant. However, there are certain signs that indicate you need a dental implant.

  • You have a missing tooth or teeth: This is the most obvious sign that you may need a dental implant. Whether you lost a tooth due to injury, decay or gum disease, a dental implant is an effective solution that can help restore your smile.
  • Your teeth are shifting: When you have missing teeth, the surrounding teeth may start to shift and move out of place. This can cause bite issues, difficulty chewing and can also affect your speech. Getting a dental implant can help prevent these issues and ensure your remaining teeth stay in place.
  • You have difficulty eating: If you’re having difficulty eating certain foods or are avoiding certain foods altogether due to missing teeth, it’s time to consider a dental implant. A dental implant functions just like a natural tooth, allowing you to chew and eat your favourite foods without worry.
  • Your speech is affected: Missing teeth can cause difficulty with pronunciation and can affect your speech. This can be embarrassing and can also impact your professional and personal life. A dental implant can help restore your speech and boost your confidence.
  • Your self-esteem is affected: Having missing teeth can greatly impact your self-esteem and confidence. You may feel self-conscious when smiling or talking to others. A dental implant can help you regain your confidence and improve your quality of life.

Think you might need a dental implant?

If you are experiencing any of these signs, then you should book a free consultation with us at our dental practice in Preston to determine if a dental implant is right for you.

Benefits of dental implants

There are several tooth replacement options available, including dentures and dental bridges. However, dental implants offer several benefits over these options:

  • Improved oral health: Dental implants do not require the removal of any healthy teeth, which can help preserve your oral health.
  • Improved speech: Missing teeth can affect your speech, and dental implants can help you speak more clearly.
  • Natural: Dental implants are designed to feel and function like natural teeth. With our premium option, we will be able to match the current shade of your teeth to make your dental implant blend in and look the same as your natural teeth.
  • Improved appearance: Giving you the confidence to smile again.
  • Long-lasting: A permanent solution for missing teeth that can last a lifetime with the proper care.

The dental implant procedure

The dental implant procedure consists of several steps.

  1. The first step is your free consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
  2. If you are, then the next step is the surgical placement of the implant into your jawbone.
  3. After the implant is placed, the implant will then fuse with the bone over time. This process can take several months and you will need to follow a strict aftercare routine to ensure proper healing.
  4. Once the implant has fused with the bone, the abutment is placed, and impressions are taken to create the crown.
  5. The crown is then attached to the abutment, completing the dental implant procedure.

Missing teeth can have a significant impact on your life. They may cause you to feel embarrassed, hide your mouth in photos or even avoid smiling with your teeth altogether. We are all too familiar with how missing teeth can affect a person’s confidence and mental wellbeing, which is why we are so focused on looking at the solutions.

Here are 5 reasons we’ve put together on why you should invest in Dental Implants to restore your natural smile.

They are a fixed solution to missing teeth

Dental Implants are made from titanium that is screwed into the jaw, which offers strong and stable support for the replacement tooth. You will be under local anaesthetic, so won’t feel any pain, only a minor discomfort.

They can last for years without any additional treatment, often for a whole lifetime. If you’ve had dentures before, you’ll be happy to hear you’ll never have to say the phrase ‘let me just put my teeth in’ again!

They appear and function like a natural tooth

A key attraction of Dental Implants is how little inconvenience they cause. They are treated just like your natural teeth, so no additional, tedious aftercare will be added to your daily routine.

You won’t have to worry about other people noticing them either. We offer the option to match your Implants with the current shade of your teeth, making it incredibly discreet and blend in perfectly.

Our Dental Implants have a guarantee of 5 years. Our experienced dentists have successfully fitted hundreds for our patients over the years.

They will improve your ability to chew

Having less teeth means that you will have a reduction of bite force, making it difficult to eat and chew properly. This ultimately reduces your enjoyment of food and the amount of nutrients that you will absorb. As the Dental Implants are strong like a natural tooth, you’ll be able to go back to chewing with ease.

Prevent problems caused by missing teeth

Did you know that when you have a gap where a tooth used to be, the surrounding teeth will naturally start to move into a new position? This can cause a range of alignment problems, which may cause further gum problems. After you have lost a tooth, or teeth, the supporting bone within the gum will also start to deteriorate as it has lost any stimulation. This bone loss can unfortunately lead to premature ageing (which nobody wants!)

Help to improve your overall confidence to smile

Your overall mental wellbeing will be improved, allowing you to get the most out of your life with the freedom to smile, chew and brush your teeth with complete ease!

We firstly neglect oral hygiene and afterwards faces the various oral health issues like decaying of a tooth, bone loss, and more. But with the occurrence of problems you are available with a variety of solutions too. However, when it comes to the best oral care option then dental implant fits the best. Dental implants offer many benefits such as bridges and dentures.

However, these are not enough as you can avail more benefits other than these such as dental implants. So, let us take you on a tour to the advantages of getting dental implants in Preston.

1. Dental Implants Lasts For A Long Time

Dental implants are designed in a certain way to offer lifetime durability. Moreover, dental implants are made of titanium that easily gets blended with the jawbone. All in all, a dental implant is a powerful tooth replacement option that one must surely opt.

2. Prevents Bone Loss

When you lose the teeth, the empty space in your jaw tends to lose the mass. If no implant is placed within one year then it further becomes difficult for the jawbone to maintain the mass. So, a dental implant is the best replacement option that will not only replace the jawbone stimulation but will further prevent the bone loss too.

3. Retains The Shape Of Face

Your teeth support the outer facial structure. When you start losing that support your face eventually starts changing the face shape making you look dull and much older. In such a case, dental implants offer enough support as natural teeth provide further avoiding the changes in face shape.

4. Easy To Care

Dental implants do not need any special equipment or products to take care of them. You don’t require to buy any specialized flosser, cleansing tablets, and much more. Just continue the oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing as you did earlier.

As we mentioned other options like dentures and bridges, these might look ideal options for tooth replacement but if compared with dental implants then they have less life span. It can also be economical in the beginning to go with the bridges but if we talk about the long run then only dental implants can cost you less. So, always consult a dentist in Preston before choosing the ideal method for your oral hygiene. However, if you are seeking a Lancaster implant dentist then the team of Lifestyle Dental is dedicated to providing the best dentistry treatments along with restoring your original smile. Contact us for the best consultation. Good Luck!

There are some facts about dental implants that you still don’t know. You need to consult your Lancaster implant dentist before you make a decision to get them.

First Understand What Dental Implants Are?

Dental implants have evolved over time and become completely different than what they used to be. They were invented by a Swedish orthopedic surgeon, Per-Ingvar Brånemark in the year 1952. Today, whenever we talk about prosthetic replacement alternative for any of our missing teeth (in dentistry) they are taken to be the standard regime.

A dental implant is made out of titanium. It is a surgical fixture that your Lancaster implant dentist will place into your jawbone. Over time he will allow this to fuse with the bone. It might take a few months depending upon the density of the bone and of course your healing capabilities.

When Would You Need A Dental Implant Surgery?

Ask your Lancaster implant dentist if dental implants are even for you in the first place (You might need some preliminary exams to determine if you are a candidate at all for the procedure). Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or even several teeth, and in some cases all of your teeth. The primary goal of this treatment is to restore normal mouth function and also reinstate aesthetics.

What Options Do You Have When It Comes To Tooth Replacement?

When it comes to tooth replacement, you will generally have three options:

  •   Removable dental appliance which is a complete denture or partial denture (depending upon the degree of loss of function you suffer from)
  •       Fixed dental bridge (which is cemented for better grip and comfort)
  •       Dental implants

Dental implants are the more affordable option and they are ideal for teeth replacement but are often considered desirable in the least because of the inconvenience and delay they cause.

Despite all that many dental patients who are missing a tooth or several teeth prefer to go for dental implants because they are supported by the bone. This does not affect the surrounding natural teeth.

Factors Affecting Your Decision

There are a lot of factors at play here. All of them will impact your decision to pick an implant in the first place. These include:

  •       The general preference of the patient
  •       Location of the missing tooth or teeth in your mouth
  •       The quantity and quality of jawbone you possess because this is where the dental implant is to be placed and so it will directly impact its success
  •       General health of the patient (if you consume alcohol or tobacco, you will be advised against it)
  •       Cost of the entire procedure
