Why are my teeth crooked or mishapen?

I often have been asked as many people say, why are my teeth crooked or mishapen?

Here are a few reasons why they could be:

1, trauma if you broke the teeth or they were chipped then this can cause a
2, the lips and tongue can exert pressures on the teeth causing them to develop in unusal places
3, ealry loss of the baby teeth this can cause the space to close too soon for the adult tooth
4, missing adult teeth
5, mesial drift- whereby the back teeth move gradully move forwards causing some crowding in the front teeth
6, extra teeth
7, big teeth and small mouth can cause crowding

These are the main reasons there may be more if i think of more will post again on this subject most of these can be corrected using some kind of brace or orthodontic treatment

We often get asked many questions about braces and clear braces here are the most common ones answered

What are they?

Clear braces come in a few different types and varieties there are clear aligners and then inman aligners
They fit on to the teeth and push teh teeth into the correct alignment

Will be painful?

A little uncomfortable. For a few days after you first get a brace, usually painkillers can resolve the matter

How long will it take?

Clear braces can take a little longer that metal braces although this is very much dependent upon the amount of aligment or movement is required.

How do I clean my teeth with them?

depending upond the type of brace you have the dentist or hygienst can advise you and give you a programme to suit you.

a few weeks ago i posted about staining and the commone causes of things that can cause extrinsic staning that is staining which is on the surface of teeth and which can in most cases be removed by scaling or hygiene.  Here I have listed some of teh things that can cause intrinsic staining.
1, Antibiotics espicailly tetracycline if given uncer teh age of 8
2, Excessive fluoride this can be from toothpaste
3,  Genetics – there are a few conditions which can cause yellow teeth and also brittle teeth these can be treated and visitng the dentist woudl give the best solution.
4, Aging – general aging of the teeth can cause a slight yellow appearnce
5, Fillings – dental fillings can cause a greay apperance to teeth espicially the metal fillings or amalgam fillings
6, Trauma to teeth – if teeth suffer an injury then over a long period the nerve whithin the tooth also known as the pulp can deteriorate and the teh byproducts of this will cause the discoluraiton of the teeth

MEET DR. NADIM MAJID & THE LIFESTYLE DENTAL TEAM

Dr. Nadim Majid qualified from Liverpool Dental school in 2001 and since then has worked in Lancashire for a number of years. He decided to undertake a career in dentistry as he found it was a good mix of science and art and also gave him the ability to help people and make a difference for them.
