Six Month Smiles – What To Expect

We have had a few people ask what can they expect when they go for a brace system such as the six month smiles

well firstly the six month smiles braces us a very unique system which can straighten teeth within six months the brace system consists of clear brackets and also a tooth coloured wires here is a video to show what they look like

Here is a number of things to remember once they are fitted

1, You do have to be careful as to what you eat as with any brace system that involves brackets food especially stick food such as toffee and chewing gum can get stuck to the brackets so best to avoid these

2, Also hard food may have to be broken down into smaller sections to eat

3, It will take longer to eat initially

4, There will be a little bit of discomfort to begin with in the first 48 hours although most people have found that this can be managed with simple painkillers

5, You must really brush thoroughly more than before, we provide specialised kits when you have the brackets fitted because the chances of developing decay increase

1, Six month smile – if you woudl like to have a cosmetic brace which doesn’t show and is fixed to the teeth with clear brackets then this is the option for you

2, Inman aligner - if you would like a removable brace which can straighten your front teeth in a matter of weeks (most people can be treated within 16-20 weeks) you only need to wear this for about 19 hours per day so it means you can take this out for social occasions

3, The clearstep or invisalign treatment – this allows you to have a complete invisable system to have your teeth straightened although does take a little longer

A Recent Question About The Inman Aligner

someone recently asked me the following question

Can Inman Aligners be used to treat orthodontic relapses that include minor rotations of the front teeth?

My lower front teeth are crowded, which includes rotation of one of the 2 foremost front teeth. Does that write off Inman Aligners as an option for me?

How do you get striaghter teeth?

You may be thining well it takes a few years and would involve metal train track braces on your teeth which dont look very good.

well there are alternatives. well quite a few alternatives lets look at the options

If you have slightly twisted or crooked teeth at the front of your mouth which just ruin your smile and lower your confidence then you could have the Clearstep brace or the Invisalign brace – these are a series of aligners which are clear and invisible (well not noticable) and when you wear each one this exherts a small amount of pressure on to the teeth and this gradually pushes the teeth into position. The degree of crowding or overlapping of your teeth will determine how long the treatment takes but even severe cases can be treated in 2 years or less.

There is also the Inman aligner

A smile can be broken down into several components - what are they and how does it effect the smile

1, The lips – these frame the smile and large lips or thin can all make a difference to the smile and the way it looks thin lips will show more teeth and more of the gums

2, The gums – these can be considered the stage or the setting for the smile and they can have an impact on the smile if we show too much then this can give the gummy smile appearance.

3, The teeth – if the gums are the stage then the teeth are the actors and like actors they can come in many shapes and sizes but together the give the smile a certain character. Often if one or two are short or smaller in comparison to the others then this can effect the smile.

4, The face – not forgetting the face which lights up with a smile and the muscles in the face which move the cheek and allow us to smile .

What are cold sores?

Cold sores can present as small blisters on the lip and mouth. They can be red and often leak a clear fluid and then scab over in about two weeks.

SO What causes a cold sore?

Cold sores are caused by a virus known as the herpes simplex virus and teh virus can be spread by the clear fluid and if you touch a cold sore.

What are the signs and symptoms of a cold sore?

the symptoms can vary from a mild tingling to quite severe pain and then this then develops into the blister

the best way to avoid cold sores is to avoid contact with anyone who has a cold sore and not to share any utensils.
