An extraction (having a tooth removed) can be quite a nerve racking experience for whatever reason it may be for either before an dental implant or before any orthodontic treatment Braces. Now the experience is much less of an ordeal with modern day local anaesthetics there should be no pain during the procedure and the procedure is a quick and pain less process. However there are some instructions that need to be followed afterwards to make sure there are no complications

1, Make sure not to eat on the socket straight away as this can cause the blood clot to be dislodged and cause further bleeding and delay the healing process
2, NO smoking or alcohol for the first 24 hours
3, Soft food diet notheing too hard or too hot
4, If socket bleeds then bite on a cloth fro about 10 mins and if no improvement then get back in touch with dentist
5, Take some pain killers as it can be sore afterwards
6, Do some hot salty mouth rinses after a few hours – table spoon of salt in a cup of warm water adn rinse every few hours

If for some reason the socket does get infected, then go back and see your dentist they will be able to help

I often get asked by many people why after they have had a recent white filling with a dentist it is sore or sensitive.
this can often occur and is normal and is know as post operative tooth pain or tooth sensitivity.
usually this does settle on most occasions and often some simple pain killers can resolve the situation, If however you are finding that it is getting worse then do consult with your dentist.

Teeth whitening is something that every one talks about and everyone loves to have whiter teeth and this seen as a sign in our society of a more attractive look and a more youthful look.

I often get asked

what types of tooth whitening are there ?

well there are over a few hundred ways to whiten your teeth
of the most popular are

1, The home whitening system or tray system as it is often known as this consists of having a tray made which fits over your teeth and then this is worn with gel inside the tray and this gradually whitens your teeth over a period of weeks

2,The surgery whitening or laser whitening or instant whitening this usually involves treatment by a dentist in a treatment room and the teeth are whitened over a short period of time and in most cases you can achieve upto four or five shade changes depending upon the system used and the type of technique used.

the most commonly asked questions people ask are

Is it safe? – yes if done properly by a dentist then nothing to worry about

Will it last – yes usually for up to four to five years at which point you may need a top up although results can vary depending upon your diet

How much does it cost? This tends to vary depending upon the dentist I would usually check out prices on websites and go with the one you most feel comfortable with
